Coming Up in September … Music in the Park

Monday, September 1  12:00 – 5:00pm  FREE
What better way to end the summer than spending the day outside listening to great music, visiting local artists at work and soaking up those last rays of summer sun, while taking in the majestic views of the North Shore mountains and the pristine Capilano Reservoir? Take the family and friends, your lawn chairs and pack a picnic lunch (or grab some great fresh, local treats from the food vendors). There will be free activities for the kids from 1:00-4:00pm and free artist demonstrations in many mediums from 12:00-5:00pm by a selection of talented local artists – they will also have artwork for sale.

27th Annual Squamish Nation Youth Powwow

Friday, August 29 – Sunday, August 31   $5
Friday 7:00pm, Saturday 1:00pm & 7:00pm, Sunday 1:00pm
Everyone is invited to attend the Squamish Nation Powwow. This aboriginal dance competition is a fun event for the whole family. There will be aboriginal arts & crafts and a traditional salmon BBQ.

Saturday Summer Sessions

Saturday, August 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 | 3:00pm – 10:00pm FREE
Free concert series which takes place on Saturdays, and features free outdoor evening concerts as well as afternoon fun for the family. Activities include free interactive art for kids, face painters, and ‘Painters at the Pier’. Each week you will find a variety of food trucks, local artisan vendors and a beer garden for those 19 years and older. Take the family, take a chair and get ready to have some summer fun on the waterfront in North Vancouver.

Shipyards Night Market

Fridays, August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Stop by Shipbuilders’ Square for the Shipyards Night Market on Friday nights for great food, art, music, entertainment, and shopping. The festivities in the square kick off at 5pm on Friday nights. On the Shipbuilders’ Stage there is live music until 10pm, showcasing talent from all over BC. The Friday Night Market also includes a Beer and Wine Garden.

Alfresco Market

Thursday, August 7, 14, 21, 28 12:00 – 6:00pm  FREE
The Civic Plaza Alfresco Market begins July 31st and continues each Thursday throughout the summer. Stop by for fresh farm produce, artisan breads and pastries, craft beer and wine, locally made specialty foods and live entertainment. Buy fresh and shop local – it’s all right here.

Deep Cove Daze

Every August since 1998, the Musart Cultural Society has produced the Deep Cove Daze Community Festival at Panorama Park in beautiful Deep Cove. The festival includes a main stage with bands and entertainment, a kid’s stage, an artisan village featuring all types of arts and crafts, a midway of rides for kids, food fair, sponsor booths, and a beer garden.

Norgate Open Market

Saturday, August 23  9:00am – 1:00pm  FREE
Stop by the 1st ever Open Market at the Norgate Community School. Local vendors will be selling everything from crafts, household goods and local produce. All proceeds from the event will go towards Novaco Daycare which sadly burned down last Christmas. If any vendors are interested in renting a space, please call 604-817-9273.

Hot Summer Nights with NVC Fire Department

Friday, August 22  6:30 – 8:00pm  FREE
Beat the heat with your North Vancouver City Fire Department. Their truck will be at Semisch Park and the whole family can have fun seeing the fire truck, meeting the firefighters, checking out equipment, getting safety advice and enjoying some activities that may include a spritz or two of water. You might want to take a change of clothes for the kids!

Hiking Skills Essentials Workshop

This workshop is for new hikers who would like to explore more challenging trails and routes in the North Shore mountains. Hike the Cedars Mill and Headwaters trails with experts from the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, AdventureSmart and Metro Vancouver to learn how to explore safely in the wilder areas of our local regional parks. Youth Learn to Fish

These fun, hands-on lessons are perfect for youth and their families. Learn about fish identification, conservation, handling, tackle, rod rigging, and enjoy an hour of fishing. All equipment provided.
