When your kids reach that age where they may not be interested in going to camp, talk to them about getting engaged in activities or camps that will give them the opportunity to eventually work and earn some money for themselves.

Most summer camps now offer “Leadership Camps” geared specifically to older teenagers, giving them the tools to eventually become “Camp leaders” and the opportunity to volunteer or get hired.

Summer time is approaching and why not introduce your little one to easy breezy summer camps. The North Shore has great activities for the little ones to have some fun with their little buddys while mom or dad have a couple (or may be more) hours to go for a run, go grocery shopping or simply, enjoy a little me time.

Of course we are absolutely crazy about our little ones, but keeping a preschooler from climbing the walls while many times trying to nurse a baby can wear out even the most dedicated parent.

What are we to do?

Day camps are the answer to this riddle! There are great camps that will nurture and keep your kid happy while teaching him important social skills .

Our Drop-In camps are a great alternative if you are nor ready to commit for a full week. Keep in mind that most of these camps just run for a couple of hours a day, the right amount of time to get to the grocery store…

Christmas Camps and Activities in Vancouver – Part 1 – In the Ski Mountains

Christmas Camps and Activities in Vancouver

A window into WinterNovember 15… It seems early (for me) to be thinking about Christmas Camps and Activities but with mom, sis, brother in law and niece & nephew coming for Christmas this year, I have decided to start looking into activities & camps for the kids and the whole family for the Christmas holidays. Here is a summary of the camps offered by our three ski mountains on the North Shore.

Ski or Snowboard Camps

We are soooo lucky to have 3 mountains to choose from when thinking about Ski or Snowboard Camps for our kids! It boils down to personal taste and probably accessibility.

Mount Seymor Ski and Snowboard Camps:

Awarded 3rd best Terrain Park in the West by the SBC Resort Guide Editor’s Choice Awards and voted the top snowshoe friendly ski resort in North America,  this is really a NO brainer.

Choose from 2 or 3 day camps for Bear Cubs Beginners,  Bear Cubs Adventurers  plus take advantage and get your own lesson with the  Momma and Papa Bears ski camp while the kids have their lesson.

As well you can buy a snowshoe pass for $9.00 (or $27.00 with rentals) for the whole day and enjoy this fast growing sport. How awesome is that?

Mount Seymour also has an Introduction to Park  lesson for kids 9 years and older. It is “offered weekends and holidays at 3:00pm. These two-hour sessions are designed to introduce skiers and riders to the terrain park in a safe, positive and encouraging environment.”

Prices: $125 to $200 plus Rentals for 1:30-2:00 hours, 2 – 3 days. *20% discount given to Season Pass Holders.
Introduction Park: $55.00 to 105.00 for two hours.

Cypress Mountain Ski and Snowboard Camps:

With the largest vertical rise on the North Shore,  53 downhill winter skiing and riding runs accessed by 6 chairlifts and 2 surface lifts Cypress is a BIG Kid’s Park.

Cypress offers 3 or 4 day camps for kids 6 to 12 years old: Raven Riders and Ski Riders and a Learn to Ski or Ride Flex Camp for kids 13th and older. The later one is 3 days of full day lessons with a unique teaching system. They guarantee that you’ll be turning by the end of your camp or they’ll keep teaching you! … Sounds like good value to me!

Finally, their Ski Rider Christmas Camp will teach you how to ride steeps, trees, bumps or how to stomp your airs in the park. This is a 4 day camp for kids 6 to 16

Prices: Starting at $349.00  for a Full Day 3 day Camp to $ 479.00 plus rentals. *Discounts given to Season Pass Holders
Terrain Park: $379.00 to $529.00 for a 4 day Camp.

Grouse Mountain Ski or Snowboard Christmas Camps:

Hard to beat the majestic view of Vancouver from Grouse Mountain on a clear winter’s day. With their Y2K pass offer, Grouse Mountain really becomes great value for the money. New this year is the addition of the  Zone Club,  a Junior and Youth Camp Program.

For kids 5 to 6 years old there is the Junior Zone Camp  and for kids 5-12 years old there is the Zone Camp.  They both offer Four or Five full or half days with a lunch option for the full days. Youth Zone Camps for teens 13-17 offers Four or Five Half Days.(Half Day is 3.5 hours with at least 2 hours in the snow)

Parents of Junior Zone Campers may request a complimentary Escort Ticket  and you can purchase a special lift ticket for $40.00 if you would like to ski or snowboard while your child takes lessons.

Prices: From $179.00 to $379.00 for a Four or Five Days Half or Full Days + Lift and Rentals. Add Lunch for Full Day Camps for $40.00 or $50.00

While you are up in Grouse Mountain, there are countless activities to enjoy during the Christmas Season.  The Peak of Christmas includes having breakfast with Santa (or lunch) meeting the reindeer, going for a sleigh ride and more. It really doesn’t get any more magical than that! Well, perhaps if you include an afternoon skate at their outdoor skate rink right by Santa’s workshop (complimentary with your admission or lift ticket).
